ゴーストダンスとRobbie Robertson

わざわざ先日のCaboライブを見に来てくださったTーコ師匠に教えていただいた、元The BandのMr.Robbie Robertsonの近況。 若かりし頃はダンディーの代名詞であった彼も今年で64歳。現在では、彼のルーツであるユダヤ人の父そして、ネイティブアメリカンの母と云う組合せを容易に連想できる味のある勇姿を見せてくれています。 そして、遅れ馳せながら教えていただいたのが彼のネイティブアメリカンとしてのDNAが故にリリースされた‘Music for The Native Americans’でした。 そして、調べていくうちに辿り着くのが”ゴーストダンス”だったのです。 ごく最近になって知ったMr.Robbie Robertsonのルーツですが、彼のルーツが引いては、The Bandを他のバンドと一線を画する独自な存在にしていたのだと改めて思い知らされます。 そして、思いは真のエコロジスト達であったネイティブアメリカンに思いは及びます。京都議定書に難色を示す某超大国に於いて大地を奪われその数多くが持ち込まれた飲み物により、その依存症となり行き場を失っている現実には、強い矛盾と憂いを感じます。 しかし、その魂は決して失われることはありません。 なぜなら、彼らのゴーストダンスのスピリット（「良きことのみをなせ。互いに愛し合え、争いごとはしないように。白人とも平和に暮らすように。嘘をついたり、盗みをはたらいたりしてはならない。戦いを好んだ古い習慣をことごとく捨て去り、私の教えに従うように。そうすればやがて、この彼岸において、友人たちと再会するだろう。そこにはもはや死もなければ、病もなく、老いもないだろう（「予言のゆくえ」の中の北山耕平氏の文）」）は人類が地球人として地球村に生きていくために必要なことであり、次世代の人間が再認識する必要がある事だからです。 Ghost Dance Crow has brought the message to the children of the sun for the return of the buffalo and for a better day to come You can kill my body You can damn my soul for not believing in your god and some world down below You don’t stand a chance against my prayers You don’t stand a chance against my love They outlawed the Ghost Dance but we shall live again, we shall live again My sister above She has red paint She died at Wounded Knee like a later day saint You got the big drum in the distance blackbird in the sky That’s the sound that you hear when the buffalo cry You don’t stand a chance against my prayers You don’t stand a chance against my love They outlawed the Ghost Dance but we shall live again, we shall live again Crazy Horse was a mystic He knew the secret of the trance And Sitting Bull the great apostle of the Ghost Dance Come on Comanche Come on Blackfoot Come on Shoshone Come on Cheyenne We shall live again Come on Arapaho Come on Cherokee Come on Paiute Come on Sioux We shall live again
